Peter Fairchild Born in Melbourne, Australia, in 1966, currently residing and working on the lands of the Turrbal and Jagera people in Brisbane, Queensland.

Currently studying a Masters of Visual Arts at Queensland College of Arts

My portrait work aims to evoke intrigue by employing naturalism to authentically present identity. Inspiration highlights the emotional significance of the individual, capturing mood, feelings, and character. I achieve this by painting my subjects in compositions that create layers of meaning, compiling a collection of experiences and history that ignites a desire to learn more. My extensive use of oil paints emphasises the traditional nature of my subjects and adds an extra layer of moral strength and soulfulness to their identity.

I am particularly inspired by and interested in sharing our older population’s memories, values, and lives within their own environment, allowing their stories to be told and preserved for future generations. I have lived a life full of gratitude for the wisdom shared and the tremendous support from the elders who have taken me under their wing. My greatest passion is to give back and continue the flow of knowledge, support, and genuine appreciation. My artwork also explores my journey through loss, grief, and apprehension.
